The Babysitter, 1995

The Babysitter, 1995
Director: Guy Ferland
Cast: Alicia Silverstone, Jeremy London, J.T.Walsh

Stage: Home TV selection, Friday night

The Babysitter in short:A teenage girl babysits two young kids while the parents go out to a party. Her boyfriend is coerced (with the help of alcohol) by an old 'friend' into going to the house. Both boys are obsessed with the babysitter, as is the father of the two children. The story basically shows the effects drink has on different people.

Preps: I am not familiar with the piece and I notice Alicia Silverstone is still a child here. Though I see her as a sex icon in many movies with more recent date, I am curious how she behaved as a child and whether she has any talent in this time of her life.

Reality: The movie is dissappointing. It can be well taken as a juvenile movie, with some erotic moments (erotic also for juvenile audience). I haven't seen such lousy act for a long time. The same goes for stupid dialogues, the scenes that cannot touch my heart and presumeably erotic affection for a teenager that goes beyond belief.
Alicia Silverstone is here merely a child, still seducing adult people like they were on some transport line or something. All adults have wet dreams about her and dream about making it out or having straight sex with her. Right.
The same deed in The american beauty, but in quite a different shape. Beauty makes this erotic desire for the young lady so convincing you cannot find it disgusting. However in this perticular piece nothing is as it should be in real life. Therefore I cannot even bare to watch it beyond half a movie.
Don't recommend it. There isn't anything you would like to watch on this piece.

My personal rating: 0 (blah. not worth your time and effort).

The Guard, 2011

The Guard, 2011
Director: John Michael McDonagh
Cast: Brendan Gleeson, Don Cheadle, Mark Strong

Stage: Home theatre

The guard in short: Sergeant Gerry Boyle is a small-town Irish cop with a confrontational personality, a subversive sense of humor, a dying mother, a fondness for prostitutes, and absolutely no interest whatsoever in the international cocaine-smuggling ring that has brought straight-laced FBI agent Wendell Everett to his door.

Preps: Another one waiting for my attention. But I don't have a clue what it's about.

Reality: One of the hardest time waiting to figure out what the movie is really about and why do I find it extremely underestimating to the audience (read: Stupid).
The scenes are wrong, the plot is really plain and the action we see is really trivial. Can I say anything good about this piece? I am trying very hard. Mocking Irish people in american cop world is .. well, I find it really lame. Drug busts are a worthy theme and comedies that revolve around them can be really strong. Or hard dramas. Well, this piece is neither of the both and even though I am struggling through the cast and its energy, I cannot bare it anymore. After 20 minutes, a shut down. I think it doesn't deserve your attention, or mine. I think it's a waste of time in more than one level. If we only had good quality dialogues, or scenes, or irony, or.. well, anything. A definite no no. How do these pieces even get the funding anyway, I wonder.

My personal rate: 0
(argh. Waste of time. Nothing in this piece to cherish or get familiar with. Skip it and do something better!)

Hall Pass, 2011

Hall Pass, 2011
Director: Bobby Farrelly, Peter Farrelly
Cast: Owen Wilson, Christina Applegate, Jason Sudeikis

Stage: Home theatre

Hall Pass in short
:A couple of married guys are always looking at other women, treating their own wives like trash. Their wives are fed up with their behavior, and grant them a 'hall pass': a week off their marriage allowing them to do anything. But the guys take their time and their week is almost up. What they don't realize is that at the same time their wives make connections of their own.

Preps: One of the hot ones in the movies a while ago. Although it's the dead season for the movies, I still find a luring bate inside this one. What if maybe once I am wrong and this could be a good one afterall?

Reality: Nope. I am not wrong. This is again, one of the crooked comedies, and as my expectations rose high, they were stabbed and trembled down with the mere (again, used and abused) idea of giving your husband graciously a week off the marriage. Hm. Like we are in the kindergarten. Where is the sense of responsibility and how does the message of the movie comply to this?
In average, every normal person wants to get off the train every now and then. I believe this piece is a sort of attempt how to do it and what happens (the look behind the scenes). But guess what, it doesn't even pass the normal standard I would expect, or at least, it could have some more brains attached to the making of the movie, for instance the script, the mere definition of why he gets to do it and why does she comply with that? Is there some written rule that guys pay more in the marriage, in terms of pain and suffering, and therefore should be allowed to take a break? In some sense, what if you have children, you cannot just go around and decide to take a break. The mere idea breaks my nerves in two parts and makes me angry all the time, since I barely sense the red line in the movie or dare I say a message. What is the true message; he's gonna wander around, doing whatever he wants to do (from a sane point of view, we can all do whatever we want, it's the responsibility and conscious that are leaving us behind doing things we decided we wanted and act as adults. In this piece, you can see small children playing in a sand box. Wives getting an extra story and an extra connection? Oh, come on. No way I buy it. And it's a shitty version. Owen acts like a clown and Applegate as the tortured wife. No way a smart viewer should comply with that or just accept it. Hence, I erase this brainless piece of a movie. Don't recommend it, don't go there, don't even think about it. There is absolutely nothing about this movie you might like.

My personal rating: 0,0 (and no comment whatsoever).

Chain Letter, 2010

Chain letter, 2010
Director: Deon Taylor
Cast: Keith David, Nikki Reed, Brad Dourif

Stage: Home theatre, late at night, when you are figuring what to do with no sleep ahead of you.

Chain Letter in short: Six friends receive a mysterious chain letter via text messaging and in their email accounts from a maniac who's hunting down teenagers who fail to forward his online chain letter. Who knew they should take the threats in the chain letter seriously? Or that chain letters using the teens' favorite technologies to track them can kill? This maniacal game pits friend against friend as they race to beat rules that seem impossible to escape. Break the chain, lose a life. Do you pass it on? Does friendship mean anything?

Preps: One in the row to watch on the disk, waiting for its turn. Well, maybe it is about time.

Reality: It is about time to get rid of this horrible piece of junk out of my disk. The truth is, that this is one of the worst pieces I have ever seen. Without a vision, clear idea where it's going (ok, besides murders), the sane mind idea you should get home with after seeing this,.. ( I could go on forever). It lacks cast, dialogues, sanity, it lacks soul. I am struggling to get a point of all the killing and all the murders. Is it really just because of a stupid mail? What kind of a reason to be assasinated is that? Yuk, I would delete it as fast as I could. Still, I watched till its end, figuring something else.

The movie poses an interesting and real idea about modern communication tools being able to hurt us. I don't believe in any dream that a junk e-mail can bring you fortune or put you in dispair. However, I do believe it has an alienating effect on people. Being able to be wherever you can in a second, speak with whom you prefer, even if the person is on the other part of the world - those are just a few to mention among numerous pluses modern world brings. Now, how about being able to track all people all the time? And access their personal data, photos, etc.. all thru this wonderworld of internet. I believe that in its core the movie wanted to reflect some of possible scenarios because exposing your personal data worldwide. Even though tempting, it might get you into trouble.

As said, this is one of the most shitty movies I have ever seen and in no wonderworld I would go and watch it again. I don't recommend it to you, either. However, do think about how vulnerable you might become just because of exposing more and more online. Least worth considering, as it might come to be a worldwide problem or challenge, depends on the way you look at it.

My personal rate: 1,0 (for the sake of thinking about this, not for the movie).

Runaway Vacation, 2006

Runaway Vacation, 2006
Director: Barry Sonnenfeld
Cast: Robin Williams, Cheryl Hines

Stage: Home tv selection

Preps: None in perticular

Runaway vacation in short: The executive Bob Munro is stressed, feeling threatened of losing his job and his lifestyle, since his abusive boss Todd Mallory hired the Stanford's geek Laird to work in their soda's company. Bob has promised his wife Jamie Munro, his teenage daughter Cassie Munro and his young son Carl Munro to spend vacations in Hawaii, but Todd demands him to prepare a presentation and attend a business meeting with the owners of a family company in a merging operation scheduled in the same period. Bob hides the truth to his family, rents a recreational vehicle and tries to convince his dysfunctional family that a road trip to the Colorado Rocky Mountains would be good to bring old values back to their family. After many incidents and while in the trailers parking area, the rookie Bob is helped by the bizarre but friendly Gornicke family. They escape from the Gornickes and initiate a journey of difficulties and leaning, retrieving their forgotten family bonds.

Reality: Wow. You really think that actors read a script or give something on their reputation when they sign up for a movie. Well we are all mistaken. They don't. Robin for sure didn't read this shitty scenario when he signed up or he really badly needed the money.
I am dissappointed in all aspects of this piece. It is not interesting nor breath taking from any level. The dialogues are worth puking, the scenery is really cheap, the music.. well, it doesn't exist or I don't notice it. The storyline is lame and unbelievable.. there's absolutely nothing worth seeing in this piece, so I rather decide to skip the last half. Maybe truly not worth my time and I can do something more useful. As I am fond of WIlliams, this was the most I could do with this, for the sake of respect towards the guy. But I cannot go any further from this. Some movies should not be made. This is one of them.

My personal rating: 0 (don't waste your breath, ain't worth it!)
