Blitz, 2011
Director: Elliot Lester
Cast: Jason Statham, Luke Evans, Aidan Gillen
Stage: home theatre :)
Blitz in short: Detective Sergeant Tom Brant who is dispatched to take down a serial killer hell bent on killing off the police force one by one. "The Blitz" manages to slip through the grasp of Tom every time, and with the precious lives of his colleagues diminishing one by one, Tom is led to the question: if we can't protect our own, then what good are we?
Preps: Ahm, nothing in perticular. I am not aware of the content, nor cast. One of those waiting on the to do list.
Reality: Well, it's one of those movies that tries to be intelligent, yet witty at the same time. Because of Statham, it would be the least I would expect. I admire Statham a great deal and I am anxious to see the piece.
The more I watch it, the more dissappointed I get. The crew seems disorientated, they don't seem to cling together, not singing the same tune or something. I am not sure. But the piece doesn't get to my heart and I am more and more inclined not to watch it anymore. I cannot believe my luck, because it's not the only movie in my mind this evening that has the same effect on me. The story isn't convincing, I feel it's been abused and that this piece doesn't make a contribution to the genre. If I look from the perspective of scenarist, I even get angry. Not clear dialogues, words put in just for the sake that someone says something. Bljak. I don't hesitate. Not my kind of music. Delete.
My personal rate: 1,0 (I didn't find nothing exceptional inside, nor the reason to watch it after a half).

Elite Squad 2, The enemy within, Tropa de elite 2
Tropa de Elite 2, Elite Squad 2, 2011
Director: Jose Padilha
Cast: Wagner Moura, Irandhi Santos, Andre Ramiro
Stage: Kino Komuna, Liffe. A late afternoon, everything packed.
Tropa in short: After a bloody invasion of the BOPE in the High-Security Penitentiary Bangu 1 in Rio de Janeiro to control a rebellion of interns, the Lieutenant-Colonel Roberto Nascimento and the second in command Captain André Matias are accused by the Human Right Aids member Diogo Fraga of execution of prisoners. Matias is transferred to the corrupted Military Police and Nascimento is exonerated from the BOPE by the Governor. However, due to the increasing popularity of Nascimento, the Governor invites him to team-up with the intelligence area of the Secretary of Security. Along the years, Fraga, who is married with Nascimento's former wife, is elected State Representative and Nascimento's son Rafael has issues with his biological father. Meanwhile Nascimento and the BOPE expel the drug dealers from several slums but another enemy arises: the militia led by Major Rocha and supported by the Governor..
Preps: Elite Squad 1 was one of the more preminent movies on the last Liffe. I am eager to see the second part, it should be an upgrade. Which makes it exceed the competition.
Reality: Well, the movie is filled with anger and action. With corruption and war per se between the locals and the military or police. Between the good and bad. Between bad and bad. Bad and worse. The prospects for people that live in this areas there is no perspective. Either you become a corrupted cop or someone they extort, or someone that fights them and deals heroin on streets. These people grew up on the streets not having a choice and not having any other perspective.
It's a movie filled with a feeling that it must be so and that it will be this way forever. And there's nothing you can do about it. Which made me very sad and pesimistic with the movie and the violence it was showing. Does it show any way out of this, any way to fight it? No. In this sense, it serves as a documentary so that even a person living on another side of the world can depict how it's like to live in a community like this. To people that live in a country like Slovenia something like this can be pretty unimaginable. Therefore I claim the movie has documentary value. Still, I would prefer to hold a position, where it also offers some sort of escape or a way out. Or a historical background. How did it come to be like this and how did all the people arrive on the level of nurturing violence? What does it take to trigger this violence and what does it take to end it? Violence for sure not.
In any case, the images from the cages are spectacular, it really gives me shivers to see this and in no imagination would I want to be there. And after seeing this, even Rio de Janeiro doesn't trigger the same interest to me. A lot of people on the world are posed to similar suffering. I guess this is a realistic South America image and we should all think about it. How to influence all of this? A movie without a call to action. Just closing the eyes won't make this dissappear, unfortunately. As said, I leave the cinema with a pesimistic and really depressive mood.
My personal rate: 7,0 (a true documentary. It will make your cells shiver with fear and disgust).

The killer inside me, 2010

The killer inside me, 2010
Director: Michael Winterbottom
Cast: Casey Affleck, Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba, Ned Beatty
The killer in short: A West Texas deputy sheriff is slowly unmasked as a psychotic killer. Sadism and masochism beneath a veneer of revenge. Lou Ford is a mild-mannered sheriff's deputy in an Oklahoma oil town in the late 1940s. His boss sends him to roust a prostitute living in a rural house. She slaps him; he hits her, then, after daily sex for the next few weeks, he decides it's love. She's devoted to him and becomes his pawn in a revenge plot she thinks is to shakedown the son of Chester Conway, the town's wealthy king of construction. Lou has a different plan, and bodies pile up as murder leads to murder. The district attorney suspects Lou, and Conway may have an inkling, but Lou stays cool. Is love, or at least peace, in the cards?
Stage: Home theatre
Preps: I don't know the movie, just have the recommendation. So I decide to catch a windy Sunday and make it better with this one.
Reality: The movie has a specific energy and addresses people who can stand to see violence on TV or on screen, to be exact. It is so that in the society we live in, apathy shows for certain genres (like war movies, killing and torturing), so in this sense, this movie falls into a special category, addressing masohism and sadism in its sexual sense.
The feelings that the viewer might have while watching the piece can be mixed, from deep sadness to real admiration, it depends on the niche the viewer belongs to. To me, it was a deep insight into a life, where you pretty much do as you please and try to please yourself and in the mean time please also other (masohists) that enjoy you doing it and admiring you for doing it. To my knowledge, such niche players exist in the world and in my opinion, would enjoy seeing this onscreen. For the other, I presume, the movie is filled with something that is hard to understand, embrace and even cope with. How can the women dwell on receiving punches and use this as sexual arrowsement, a lot of people cannot understand. And is also deeply neglected in the movie genres (or avoided when it comes to this). This group seems to be so marginal, yet in my opinion it isn't. So in this movie, the murders occur to satisfy purely sexual desire and in subconscious of the murderer, also the lack of love and respect. A psychological drama, if I conclude, definitely worth seeing. Showing respect for the roots someone derives from and unfortunately, not giving enough background to the spectator to fully evaluate the reasons behind the murders. Besides the obvious, of course - sadism and sexual pleasing.
My personal rating: 8,0 (an extreme for a change, making me anxious to see the rest. Worth seeing in many aspects. Also the roles are brilliantly played)
